How to Install and Set Up AIOTA Trading Journal on MetaTrader 5
Setting up AIOTA Trading Journal is simple and takes only a few minutes.
Once the Expert Advisor is installed and connected to your AIOTA account, your trades can be sent directly from MetaTrader 5 to your AIOTA Trading Journal, allowing you to track, review, and analyze your trading performance from your dashboard.
Follow the steps below to complete the installation and setup.
Step 1 — Download and Install AIOTA Trading Journal
There are two ways to install AIOTA Trading Journal.
Option 1: Download Directly from the AIOTA Website
You can download the latest version of the Expert Advisor directly using the button below:
After downloading the file, you will need to manually add it to MetaTrader 5. The complete installation process is explained in Step 2.
Option 2: Install Directly from MetaTrader Market
If AIOTA Trading Journal is available on MetaTrader Market, you can install it directly inside MetaTrader 5 without manually downloading or transferring any files.
To install it through MetaTrader Market:
- Open MetaTrader 5.
- Open the Market section.
- Search for AIOTA Trading Journal.
- Open the AIOTA Trading Journal product page.
- Click Download / Install.
- If prompted, sign in to your MQL5 Community account.
- Wait for MetaTrader to complete the download and installation.
- Once installed, AIOTA Trading Journal should appear under: Navigator → Expert Advisors
If you installed AIOTA Trading Journal directly through MetaTrader Market, you do not need to complete the manual installation in Step 2. You can continue directly to Step 3.
Step 2 — Manually Install the Expert Advisor in MetaTrader 5
If you downloaded AIOTA Trading Journal directly from the AIOTA website, you need to place the Expert Advisor file inside MetaTrader 5.
Installation on Windows
- Open MetaTrader 5.
- From the top menu, go to: File → Open Data Folder
- Open the: MQL5 folder
- Then open: Experts . The final location should be: MQL5 → Experts
- Copy the downloaded AIOTA Trading Journal file into the Experts folder.
- Return to MetaTrader 5.
- Find the Navigator panel.
- Right-click Expert Advisors and select Refresh.
If AIOTA Trading Journal does not appear, close MetaTrader 5 and open it again.
You should now see AIOTA Trading Journal in the Expert Advisors list.
Installation on macOS
On macOS, we recommend accessing the correct Expert Advisors directory directly through MetaTrader rather than manually searching for the MetaTrader installation folders.
- Open MetaTrader 5.
- From the MetaTrader menu, select: File → Open Data Folder
- Open: MQL5
- Then open: Experts
- Copy the downloaded AIOTA Trading Journal file into this folder.
- Return to MetaTrader 5.
- Go to: Navigator → Expert Advisors and refresh the list.
- If the Expert Advisor does not appear, restart MetaTrader 5.
Using Open Data Folder is recommended because the actual location of MetaTrader files on macOS may vary depending on your MetaTrader version and installation method.
Step 3 — Add the AIOTA URL to MetaTrader WebRequest
If your Expert Advisor (EA) needs to send data to the internet — such as to Google Sheets, a webhook, or the AIOTA server — you must first add the destination web addresses to MetaTrader’s approved URL list under Expert Advisors settings. This feature is called Allow WebRequest for listed URL.
Sometimes this section stops working: you can no longer add new addresses or delete existing ones, and your EA can no longer communicate with external services.
Make sure you copy the URL exactly as provided.
Then:
- Open MetaTrader 5.
- From the top menu, go to: Tools → Options
- Open the Expert Advisors tab.
- Enable: Allow WebRequest for listed URL
- In the list below, click Add new URL or the + button.
- Paste the AIOTA WebRequest URL.
- Make sure there are no additional spaces or changes in the URL.
- Click OK to save the settings.
Important
Adding the URL alone is not enough.
You must also make sure that: Allow WebRequest for listed URL is enabled.
Otherwise, MetaTrader will not allow AIOTA Trading Journal to communicate with the AIOTA platform.
Step 4 — Run AIOTA Trading Journal on a Chart
After installing the Expert Advisor, you need to run it on one of your MetaTrader charts.
To do this:
- Open a chart in MetaTrader 5.
- Go to: Navigator → Expert Advisors
- Find AIOTA Trading Journal.
- Drag and drop it onto the chart, or double-click its name.
- The Expert Advisor settings window will open.
- Enable the required permissions for the Expert Advisor.
- Click OK.
AIOTA Trading Journal should now be running on the chart.
Step 5 — Enable Algo Trading
MetaTrader must allow Expert Advisors to run for AIOTA Trading Journal to operate correctly.
Find the: Algo Trading
button in the MetaTrader toolbar and make sure it is enabled.
If Algo Trading is disabled, the Expert Advisor may not be able to operate correctly.
You can also check the relevant Expert Advisor permissions under:
Tools → Options → Expert Advisors
and make sure Expert Advisor execution is allowed.
Step 6 — Enter Your AIOTA ID
The next step is to connect your MetaTrader account to your AIOTA account.
Every AIOTA account has a unique AIOTA ID.
To find yours:
- Sign in to your account on the AIOTA website.
- Go to the My Account page.
- Find your AIOTA ID and copy it.
- Return to MetaTrader 5.
- Open the AIOTA Trading Journal settings.
- Open settings and enter your ID in the AIOTA ID field.
- Save the settings.
Make sure you enter your AIOTA ID exactly as it appears on the My Account page. An incorrect ID will prevent the Expert Advisor from connecting your MetaTrader account to the correct Trading Journal.
Step 7 — Check Your Connection Status
Once the previous steps are complete, AIOTA Trading Journal will automatically check the connection status.
You will see a connection status indicator in the top bar of the Expert Advisor.
🟢 Green Light — Connected
If the indicator is green, your setup has been completed successfully and the connection between:
MetaTrader → AIOTA Trading Journal → AIOTA Dashboard
is working correctly.
Your Trading Journal is now ready to use.
🔴 Red Light — Connection Problem
If the indicator is red, one or more required settings are missing or there is a problem with the connection.
Move your mouse over the red indicator to see the reason for the connection problem.
AIOTA Trading Journal will display the relevant error information so you can identify and correct the issue.
Common Installation and Connection Issues
If the connection indicator remains red, check the following:
1. AIOTA URL Has Not Been Added to WebRequest
Go to: Tools → Options → Expert Advisors
and make sure the AIOTA URL appears in the WebRequest list.
Also make sure: Allow WebRequest for listed URL is enabled.
2. Missing or Incorrect AIOTA ID
Compare the AIOTA ID entered in the Expert Advisor settings with the ID displayed on your My Account page.
Even a single incorrect character may prevent the connection from being established.
3. Algo Trading Is Disabled
Make sure Algo Trading is enabled in MetaTrader 5.
4. The Expert Advisor Is Not Running on a Chart
AIOTA Trading Journal must be running inside MetaTrader.
Make sure the Expert Advisor has been added to one of your open charts and is active.
5. MetaTrader Is Not Connected to the Internet
MetaTrader must have an active internet connection and be connected to your broker’s trading server.
Check the connection status inside MetaTrader 5.
6. Settings Were Changed but the Expert Advisor Has Not Updated
If necessary, remove AIOTA Trading Journal from the chart and add it again.
You can also restart MetaTrader 5 and check the connection again.
Your AIOTA Trading Journal Is Ready
Congratulations! Your Trading Journal setup is now complete.
If the connection status indicator is green, AIOTA Trading Journal is ready to record and analyze your trading activity.
From this point forward, your trades can be transferred directly from MetaTrader to your AIOTA Trading Journal, allowing you to build a structured trading history without manually recording every position.
